Milwaukee, February 7, 2024 – Baird, an employee-owned, international financial services firm, announced today that Sandy Walter will join Peter Kies as Co-Head of the firm’s Equity Capital Markets (ECM) business. As with other Baird Global Investment Banking leaders, Walter will perform his new leadership role while continuing to actively manage his ECM coverage with the Consumer, Distribution and Real Estate Groups.

Walter began his investment banking career at Baird in 2004. Like many senior leaders at Baird, Walter has risen through the ranks at the firm from an Analyst to a highly respected and accomplished Managing Director. He is extremely well regarded both internally and externally for his well-developed equity origination and execution skills, strong leadership capabilities and embodiment of GIB’s model of teamwork, collaboration and commitment to culture. Sandy received a bachelor’s degree from Bates College and an MBA from University of Wisconsin-Madison.

In addition to his long-time role in ECM at Baird, Walter has also served in many different capacities and offices across Global Investment Banking, with a broad range of strategic transaction experience in both equity as well as M&A. He has previously held positions within Baird’s Real Estate Investment Banking Group as well as Baird’s Global Technology & Services Investment Banking Group.

“Sandy and Peter will be full partners in leading the business,” said Brian Doyal, Co-Head of Global Investment Banking. “This approach allows both leadership partners to maintain a high level of client engagement while also being strategically focused on building the business and the team for the long term.”

“Sandy’s deep product expertise and diverse background at Baird will uniquely enable him to help continue to grow ECM,” said Brian McDonagh, Co-Head of Global Investment Banking. “Sandy has proven the ability to expand our equity product offering while also paying a lead role in attracting and growing our talent, currently serving as the Co-Chair of our Global Investment Banking Recruiting Committee. We are excited to see him and Peter continue their success.”

The addition of a Co-Head to the ECM business reflects a period of tremendous growth. Baird’s ECM Group has completed more than 400 transactions since 2019, raising over $175 billion in capital. Working with 120 equity sales and trading professionals across 12 offices worldwide and backed by 40+ senior research analysts covering more than 700 companies, our ECM platform offers clients tremendous access, mindshare and momentum.
