Cognex Corporation (“Cognex”) (NASDAQ-GS: CGNX) recently completed the sale of the assets of its Surface Inspection Systems Division (“SISD”) to AMETEK, Inc. (“AMETEK”) (NYSE: AME) for $160 million. SISD develops and manufactures automated, software-enabled vision systems used to inspect surfaces of continuously processed materials for flaws and defects. SISD’s in-line and real-time image processing technology detects, classifies, filters and accurately maps specific defects over the entire area of the surface. End markets served include metals, paper, nonwovens, plastics and glass. SISD is headquartered in Hayward, California. Cognex is a world leader in machine vision solutions that incorporate sophisticated technology to give systems and products the ability to “see.” The Company’s products include barcode readers, machine vision sensors and machine vision systems that are used in factories, warehouses and distribution centers around the world to guide, gauge, inspect, identify and assure the quality of items during the manufacturing and distribution process. Cognex is headquartered in Natick, Massachusetts. AMETEK is a leading global manufacturer of electronic instruments and electromechanical devices. The SISD business joins AMETEK as part of its Electronic Instruments Group (EIG), a leader in the design and manufacture of advanced instruments and systems for the process, aerospace, power and industrial markets.
