Our use of cookies and other information-gathering technologies

A "cookie" is a small text file which is stored on the user's hard drive or mobile device. Cookies perform a number of functions associated with browsing websites and are used for a variety of different purposes, such as tracing users from page to page on an internet site, thereby enhancing a user's browsing experience. They are generated by web servers when the user enters an internet page, and are passed to the user's computer or mobile device and stored for subsequent future access. If you are not familiar with cookies, you can find more detailed information about them here http://www.aboutcookies.org.

We use our own first party cookie to collect information about visitor behavior on our website through Google Analytics. A JavaScript tag that is stored within the page code of the website collects information including, (but not limited to), the pages you visit, how long you are on the site, how you arrive at the site, generic demographic information (not personally identifiable) and links that you click on. This information is then stored by Google Analytics for analyzing visitor behavior to our site. The collected data is not tied to any personally identifiable information, and Baird does not collect or store personally identifiable information thus cannot use the data to identify you.

We only use cookies in certain areas of this website (the "Baird Website") and the purposes for which they are used are detailed below. You may consent to accepting cookies and will do so by continuing to browse the Baird website. You can modify your browser so that it will not accept cookies; However, if you do so this may affect your browsing experience and certain functions within the website may not work.

The Baird websites use the following cookies:

Session Cookies

Session cookies are used to temporarily store information about logged in users. These cookies do not collect information from the user's computer, and do not identify the user. We use the following session cookies:

  •  "ASP.Net_SessionId": this cookie helps to identify each browser session on the server so that the user has an uninterrupted journey through the Baird website. It expires automatically when the session ends.
  • "ASPXAUTH": this cookie concerns the part of the Baird website that requires a username and password authentication. It determines that a user is logged in. When the user logs out, the cookie expires.
  • "ARRAffinity": these cookies are set by our hosting provider to help load pages efficiently by routing users to the same server consistently. They expire as soon as you close your browser.
  • We use "Baird#lang" to remember the language in which a user is browsing the Baird website.

Permanent Cookies

Permanent cookies are used to enhance a user's browsing experience by "remembering" that user on subsequent visits.

  • We use the "recentOffice" and "recentPeople" cookies to speed up navigation by giving you the option to return to pages you have already visited. The cookies expire one year after the last page was requested.
  • "SC_Analytics_Global_Cookie": this persistent cookie identifies repeat visits from a single user. The cookie expires one year after the last page was requested.
  • "SC_Analytics_Session_Cookie": this cookie is used to collect anonymised information about how visitors use the site, including the number of visitors, where visitors have come from before coming to the site and the pages they visit on the site. The cookie expires one year after the last page was requested.

Acceptance of Cookies

We use "CookieAccepted" to record whether a user has accepted the cookie policy. The cookies expire one year after the last page was requested.

Verification Cookie

To protect the security of the Baird website, we use the "_requestverificationtoken" cookie. This cookie verifies a visitor's identity in order to prevent "Cross-Site Request Forgery" attacks, where unauthorized commands are transmitted from a user that the website trusts.

Social Network Cookies

Baird websites may offer the opportunity to "Like", "Follow" or "Share" site content via social networks. These networks almost always use cookies. If you are a member of one or more of the following social networks and do not want the social network cookies to be placed on your system, we suggest that you refrain from using such sharing tools.

Generic Google Analytics Cookies

These cookies are used by Google Analytics, which monitors traffic levels, search queries and visits to our website. Google Analytics stores internet protocol ("IP") addresses on its servers in the US. An IP address is a unique number assigned to each device (such as your computer) that allows it to communicate with other devices on a computer network (such as modems, printers or other computers). Neither Baird nor Google associate your IP address with any information that can identify the user personally.

These cookies enable Google to determine whether you are a return visitor to the site, and to track the pages that you visit during your session.

Four types of cookies are used by Google Analytics:

  • __utma Cookie A persistent cookie - remains on a computer, unless it expires or the cookie cache is cleared. It tracks visitors. Metrics associated with the Google __utma cookie include: first visit (unique visit), last visit (returning visit). This also includes Days and Visits to purchase calculations which afford ecommerce websites with data intelligence around purchasing sales funnels.
  • __utmb Cookie & __utmc Cookie These cookies work in tandem to calculate visit length. Google __utmb cookie demarks the exact arrival time, then Google __utmc registers the precise exit time of the user. Because __utmb counts entrance visits, it is a session cookie, and expires at the end of the session, e.g. when the user leaves the page. A timestamp of 30 minutes must pass before Google cookie __utmc expires. Given__utmc cannot tell if a browser or website session ends. Therefore, if no new page view is recorded in 30 minutes the cookie is expired.
  •   __utmz Cookie Cookie __utmz monitors the HTTP Referrer and notes where a visitor arrived from, with the referrer siloed into type (Search engine (organic or cpc), direct, social and unaccounted). From the HTTP Referrer the   __utmz Cookie also registers, what keyword generated the visit plus geolocation data.  This cookie lasts six months.
  • __utmv Cookie Google __utmv Cookie lasts "forever". It is a persistant cookie. It is used for segmentation, data experimentation and  the __utmv works hand in hand with the   __utmz cookie to improve cookie targeting capabilities.

Other Analytics Cookies

We also use third party applications and platforms for different services that support our website and provide a better user experience for you. These also come with their own cookies. Cookies stemming from these applications assist us in understanding the user experience on our website, including how you interact with the website, and allowing us to optimize your user experience more accurately and efficiently. These cookies can collect data such as your IP address, device information, browser information, location, and information related to how you interact with our website (how long you stay on a page or what links you interact with). Such collected data will be anonymized and not attached to your personal information. Below are a list of cookies used by such providers:

  • _hjSessionUser_{site_id}: This cookie is set when a user first lands on a page.It persists the Hotjar User ID which is unique to that site. It ensures data from subsequent visits to the same site are attributed to the same user ID. It has a 365 day duration. JSON data type.
  • _hjid: This cookie is set when a user first lands on a page. It persists the Hotjar User ID which is unique to that site. It ensures data from subsequent visits to the same site are attributed to the same user ID.It has a 365 day duration. UUID data type.
  • _hjFirstSeen: This cookie identifies a new user’s first session. It is used by Recording filters to identify new user sessions. It lasts the duration of the session. Boolean true/false data type.
  • _hjViewportId: This cookie stores user viewport details such as size and dimensions. It lasts the duration of the session. UUID data type.
  • _hjSession_{site_id}: This cookie holds current session data. It ensures subsequent requests in the session window are attributed to the same session. It has a 30-minute duration. JSON data type.
  • _hjSessionTooLarge: This cookie causes Hotjar to stop collecting data if a session becomes too large. It is determined automatically by a signal from the WebSocket server if the session size exceeds the limit. It lasts the duration of the session. Boolean true/false data type.
  • _hjSessionRejected: This cookie, if present, set to '1' for the duration of a user's session, when Hotjar has rejected the session from connecting to our WebSocket due to server overload. It is applied in extremely rare situations to prevent severe performance issues. It lasts the duration of the session. Boolean true/false data type.
  • _hjSessionResumed: This cookie is set when a session/recording is reconnected to Hotjar servers after a break in connection. It lasts the session duration. Boolean true/false data type.
  • _hjLocalStorageTest: This cookie checks if the Hotjar Tracking Code can use local storage. If it can, a value of 1 is set. Data stored in_hjLocalStorageTest has no expiration time, but it is deleted almost immediately after it is created. The cookie lasts for a duration of under 100ms. Boolean true/false data type.
  • _hjIncludedInPageviewSample: This cookie is set to determine if a user is included in the data sampling defined by your site's pageview limit. It has a duration of 30 minutes. Boolean true/false data type.
  • _hjIncludedInSessionSample: This cookie is set to determine if a user is included in the data sampling defined by the site's daily session limit. It lasts for a duration of 30 minutes. Boolean true/false data type.
  • _hjAbsoluteSessionInProgress: This cookie is used to detect the first pageview session of a user. It lasts a duration of 30 minutes.Boolean true/false data type.
  • _hjTLDTest: We try to store the _hjTLDTest cookie for different URL substring alternatives until it fails. It enables us to try to determine the most generic cookie path to use, instead of page hostname. It means that cookies can be shared across subdomains (where applicable). After this check, the cookie is removed. Boolean true/false data type.
  • _hjRecordingEnabled: This cookie is set when a Recording starts. It is read when the Recording module is initialized to see if the user is already in a recording in a particular session. It lasts for the duration of the session. Boolean true/false data type.
  • _hjRecordingLastActivity: This cookie is set in Session storage as opposed to cookies. It is updated when a user recording starts and when data is sent through the WebSocket (the user performs an action that Hotjar records). It lasts the duration of the session. Numerical Value (Timestamp) data type.
  • _hjClosedSurveyInvites: This cookie is set when a user interacts with an external link Survey invitation modal. It ensures the same invite does not reappear if it has already been shown. It has a duration of 365 days. Boolean true/false data type.
