MILWAUKEE, May 8, 2015 –Baird is pleased to announce it has presented this year’s Baird Community Involved Player of the Year Award to Jonathan Lucroy of the Milwaukee Brewers. Mary Ellen Stanek, CFA, Managing Director and Chief Investment Officer for Baird, presented the award to Lucroy at the Wisconsin Sports Awards last night. The fourth annual event, which was created to celebrate excellence in professional, collegiate and high school sports statewide, was held at the Kohler Global Communications building in Kohler, Wis.
Baird selected Lucroy for the award due to his ongoing involvement with community causes, especially military-related organizations. Lucroy is very active with Camp Hometown Heroes, which holds a week-long overnight summer camp for children of fallen U.S. service members. He also closely works with Stars and Stripes Honor Flight (SSHF), a Wisconsin-based organization that flies veterans to Washington, D.C., to visit the memorials created in their honor. In recognition of his numerous contributions to the community, Baird Foundation will donate $2,500 each to Camp Hometown Heroes and SSHF in Lucroy’s name.
“We are pleased to present the Baird Community Involved Player of the Year Award to Jonathan Lucroy in recognition of all he does to improve the lives of others. His commitment to serving our veterans and their families is truly exemplary,”Stanek said. “Baird is proud to sponsor this award, which aligns well with our culture and long-standing tradition of giving back to the communities in which our associates live and work, and encouraging others to do the same.”
“Camp Hometown Heroes is incredibly grateful for the work Jonathan has done to help us assist children in need of support,” said Jim Kacmarcik, Co-Founder of Camp Hometown Heroes. “We appreciate the donation he has designated us to receive, which will help send children of fallen U.S. service members to our camp where they can experience friendship, fun and healing.”
“Jonathan has embraced our vision and been an outstanding supporter of our organization,” said Karyn Roelke, Publicity Chair with SSHF. “We congratulate him on this recognition and thank him for choosing our organization to receive this donation from Baird Foundation, which will help us continue to honor our local World War II and Korean War heroes.”
Other causes Lucroy supports include the hiring of veterans in Milwaukee, Fisher House Wisconsin, Make-A-Wish, Milwaukee Brewers youth clinics, The Muscular Dystrophy Association, the Brewers Community Foundation, and The Miracle League.
About Camp Hometown Heroes
Camp Hometown Heroes is a national free week-long overnight summer camp for children and siblings between the ages of seven to 17 of fallen U.S. service members who died in any manner: combat, accident, illness or suicide. During their visit to camp, perhaps for the first time in their young lives, the children have the opportunity to openly discuss their feelings and experiences. Through the support of pediatric grief specialists, the children partake in art and music therapy programs and optional discussion groups. For more information, please visit www.hometownheroes.org.
About Stars and Stripes Honor Flight
Stars and Stripes Honor Flight flies WWII veterans, Korean War veterans, and terminally ill veterans of any conflict on one day, all-expenses-paid trips to Washington DC to visit their memorials as a final thank you for their service. In addition, SSHF actively promotes educational aspects of this mission in local schools and communities. As the Greatest Generation slowly fades away, the need to honor them for their sacrifices becomes more urgent. Over 3,500 local veterans have already taken their Honor Flight, and the waiting list of veterans continues to grow. For more information, please visit www.starsandstripeshonorflight.org.
