PORTLAND, Ore., July 15, 2014 – Baird, an international, employee-owned wealth management, capital markets, private equity and asset management firm, and McAdams Wright Ragen, Inc. (MWR), an investment firm headquartered in Seattle, announced today that they plan to combine their offices in Portland later this year and grow their presence in the market longer term. MWR became a subsidiary of Baird Financial Group, the holding company of Baird on July 1. Baird and MWR’s combined presence in Portland will include more than 30 wealth management associates, including 20 Financial Advisors. Additionally, Baird has public finance and fixed income institutional sales operations in Portland.
The combined office will be led by Rob Shick, Senior Vice President, Branch Manager, who currently leads MWR’s Portland office. Shick will manage the office in addition to serving clients as a financial advisor. David Perez, who previously managed Baird’s Portland office, will continue to serve clients as a Baird financial advisor in Portland. Real estate options in the market are being explored, so the location of the combined office has not yet been determined.
“Rob is a dynamic, high-integrity leader who is respected and admired by all who know him. He is extremely well-positioned to manage Baird’s growing presence in Portland moving forward,” said Jarrett Z. Kovics, Regional Director for Baird’s Private Wealth Management group. “We offer our sincere thanks to David Perez for his leadership as founding branch manager of Baird’s Portland office and look forward to many years of him serving clients as a valued member of the Baird team.”
“Combining Baird’s and MWR’s expertise and resources in Portland will strengthen our presence in this vital market, enabling us to build on the high level of service and financial expertise we offer our clients,” said Michael J. Schroeder, President of Baird Private Wealth Management. “It is not every day we have the opportunity to bring two great teams together under one roof, so we couldn’t be more excited.”
Shick has been in the investment business since 1985 when he joined Shearson Lehman Brothers as a financial advisor. He spent nearly 10 years at Ragen MacKenzie, which was later acquired by Wells Fargo. After five years at Wells Fargo, he joined MWR and became the founding branch manager of the firm’s Portland office in 2005. A native Oregonian, Shick is a graduate of Portland State University. He resides in Portland with his wife Suzanne. They have two daughters, Lauren and Amy, and a son, Kyle.
Passionate about giving back to his community, Shick is chair of the Oregon Health and Science University (OHSU) Knight Cancer Institute Council, a role in which he helps raise funds to advance cancer research and care in support of Knight Cancer Research Director Dr. Brian Druker. A 9-year cancer survivor who personally underwent treatment at OHSU, he is currently helping to lead the Knight Cancer Challenge campaign to raise $1 billion in two years for cancer research at OHSU. He also serves the OHSU Foundation as a board member. For his exemplary commitment to OHSU, Shick was recognized in 2010 as an Outstanding Volunteer Fundraiser by the Association of Fundraising Professionals’ Oregon and SW Washington Chapter. He also serves as an advisor to the St. Matthew Lutheran Church Foundation.
