Baird associates in London got creative for Baird Gives Back Week as they planned and painted a mural on the outside walls of Holmleigh Primary School on Friday, 17 May, 2013.
The 13 volunteers developed their theme around the colourful illustrations of Eric Carle’s classic children’s book, "The Very Hungry Caterpillar." The London office came across the mural opportunity by partnering with Kids Company, a charity organisation dedicated to providing practical, emotional and educational support to inner-city children. Among its many child-focused objectives, Kids Company aims to help improve school environments with projects such as mural painting to enhance children’s emotional well-being and educational attainment.
"We were free to express our artistic brilliance, so all colourings of the mural were decided by Baird volunteers," said Michaela Wilson-Fraser, HR Advisor in London. "We all felt like we gave something back to the community. It was a great day!"
The Baird volunteers benefited from the creative guidance of Lisa Price, a local artist who partners with Kids Company. She outlined her vision for the mural on the wall, and then the associates worked throughout the day to bring Lisa’s vision to life with colour.
"The Baird team transformed bare walls into a colourful story in less than a day," said Peter Watson, Chief Operating Officer. "The children were very curious about what we were doing and I think they were amazed at the rapid transformation of their playground."
