Acquisition of the engineering consulting business of ERA Technology


Baird served as the exclusive financial advisor to Phoenix Equity Partners and the management team on this transaction


Phoenix Equity Partners (“Phoenix”) recently funded the management buyout of the engineering consulting business of ERA Technology (“ERA”) from Cobham plc (“Cobham”).

ERA, based in Surrey, is a specialist electrical, mechanical and materials engineering consultancy business focused on industrial markets. Employing more than 100 staff, ERA offers condition assessment, materials design and testing, forensic engineering, safety assessments and failure investigation services to a wide range of private and public sector clients. Formed in 1920 as a research association, ERA developed its expertise in electrical and mechanical technology, converting to a trading entity in 2001 and being acquired by Cobham in 2003.

Founded in 2001, Phoenix is a leading UK middle market private equity firm that invests principally in UK-headquartered businesses valued at between £20 million and £200 million. Its current portfolio consists of 14 businesses, generating in excess of £1 billion in aggregate revenues.

Cobham, an international company engaged in the development, delivery and support of leading edge aerospace and defence systems, will retain ERA’s advanced technology and niche product business, which will continue to trade as Cobham Technical Services.
