Baird's Position of Strength

A message from Paul Purcell, Baird Chairman, President & CEO

Baird’s financial strength and our structure as a privately held, independent firm, owned by employees, enable us to maintain our steadfast client focus. Our unique position of strength has been particularly important In the challenging environment of the past several years.
  • Revenues for 2009 were $718 million, up 5.6% from 2008, and our second-best year on record. And, Baird was very profitable in 2009, with operating income of $62 million.

  • Baird is well capitalized, with excess net capital that is more than 50 times the requirement, as of December 31, 2009.

  • We have been conservative in our use of debt, and we have significant unused bank commitments.

  • Our senior executives average 17 years at Baird and are strong advocates for the important values on which the firm has built its reputation.

  • We have five complementary businesses, balancing our sources of revenue and broadening our capabilities for clients.

  • Our clients have account protection through the Securities Investor Protection Corporation (SIPC), and coverage in excess of SIPC limits through Lloyd's of London.
"...we are strategically expanding our reach and capabilities and adding new talent, all with an eye to best serving our clients’ current and future needs."
Baird’s strong position today reflects our 90-year history of managing our business conservatively, of taking a longer-term view and focusing on our core strengths. It means we are strategically expanding our reach and capabilities and adding new talent, all with an eye to best serving our clients’ current and future needs.

We greatly value the trust our clients place in Baird, and we are dedicated to continue earning it by delivering financial advice that puts our clients first.
