Baird Honors Hackmann with Brenton H. Rupple Citizenship Award

MILWAUKEE, June 4, 2012

Baird, an international, employee-owned wealth management, capital markets, private equity and asset management firm, has named Glen Hackmann the 2012 recipient of the Brenton H. Rupple Citizenship Award, the firm’s highest community service honor. The award, which is bestowed on one associate each year for his or her outstanding dedication to community service and support, was presented to Hackmann at Baird’s annual meeting on May 31. The award includes a donation from Baird Foundation to the charity of Hackmann’s choice.

Hackmann, Managing Director and the firm’s General Counsel and Secretary, joined Baird in 1984. He is the 15th recipient of the award, first presented in 1998 to the late Brenton Rupple, Sr., former Baird President and Chairman of the Board. Rupple devoted countless hours throughout his life to more than 40 civic and charitable organizations and college boards.

Hackmann has served on the Board of Directors and as Chairman of the Board of UPAF of Greater Milwaukee, the largest community based performing arts fund in the United States. He is a former Board member and President of the Board of the Florentine Opera Company, as well as a former member of the Board of Directors of the Milwaukee Ballet Company.

“The Brenton H. Rupple Citizenship Award honors associates who best represent Baird’s culture and commitment to the communities in which we live and work,” said Paul E. Purcell, Baird Chairman, President & Chief Executive Officer. “For more than two decades, Glen has played a significant role – strategically, financially and artistically – in supporting and helping grow Milwaukee’s vibrant arts community through his dedication to the United Performing Arts Fund, the Florentine Opera Company, and the Milwaukee Ballet Company.”

“Glen is wonderful,” said Cristy Garcia Thomas, President, Aurora Healthcare Foundation, and former CEO of UPAF. “He has an extremely demanding job and is very dedicated to the work and the people at Baird, but when he gets engaged in the community, he is always willing to roll up his sleeves and give his time, his talent and his treasures. His leadership and passion for the performing arts have elevated UPAF and many other organizations in our area.”

In 2005, Hackmann was honored nationally with the Americans for the Arts Michael Newton Award in recognition of his active, innovative and creative fund-raising techniques, distinctive management style and his commitment and dedication to the united arts fund movement. In 2009, he received the Mrs. Walter H. Stiemke Award, UPAF’s highest honor, in recognition of his extraordinary dedication to the performing arts.

Baird’s commitment to the community
Baird has a long-standing tradition of giving back to the communities in which its associates live and work, both on a corporate and individual level. Baird Foundation provides support to charitable organizations and Baird associates actively volunteer in their communities. Baird’s firm wide Charitable Gift Matching Program provides a match for associates’ financial contributions to eligible nonprofit organizations. Associates also receive an additional paid day off each year to perform volunteer service through the “Baird Cares” program.

Each year, associates team up during Baird Gives Back Week to help with projects such as preparing and serving food, tutoring students, working with seniors, building homes, and cleaning up parks. In 2012, more than 1,300 Baird associates and family members donated 3,700 volunteer hours during the week of May 14-19 to help approximately 100 non-profit organizations.
