News Alert - U.S. Supreme Court Ruling Upholding Health Care Has Implications for Investors
June 28, 2012
The U.S. Supreme Court ruling upholding the health care law does have significant implications for investors, according to
Tim Steffen
, CPA/PFS, CFP
®
, Director of Financial Planning at Robert W. Baird & Co.
The most obvious repercussion of this decision is that some investors may trigger capital gains they were thinking about taking next year, Steffen said. High earners also may accelerate income from stock options or bonuses into this year to avoid the additional 0.9 percent tax on their wages above the thresholds scheduled for 2013. However, Steffen cautions investors not to overreact as several months remain before the end of the year to make investment decisions and consider market performance. The results of the presidential election in November also may change tax policy.
